Upcoming Product Releases
News 28 October 2022 – Max Factory Plamax Minimum Factory Griffon & Chimaera Kits to Be Released and Patlabor Art Exhibition and Manga Sale to Be Held at Tomakomai Cosplay FestaMax Factory have announced two new Patalbor kits in their Plamax range; a Plamax MF-67 Minimum Factory Griffon & Cumaira Labor Color Version and an alternate Plamax MF-68 Minimum Factory Griffon & Cumaira Effect Color Version. Both sets contain a fixed pose non-scale (70mm in height) kit of the Griffon and Chimaera labors. The idea behind the kits are they are highly detailed, but with few parts and easy to assemble and don't necessarily require to be painted. The alternate "Effect Color" version is moulded in "vivid colors", but the description doesn't go into detail as to what that means exactly. Both versions of the kit retail for ¥4,180 and are due for release in March 2023. The
Tomakomai Cosplay Festa which will be held from Saturday 5
November to Sunday 6 November 2022 in Tomakomai-shi,

will include some new works. A Tomakomai
Holy Land Manga Spot Sale
will also be held on Saturday 5 November 2022 from midday to
5pm at the Tomakomai Tourist Association Information Center
in the Hokkaido Friend Building Tenant Building. Manga on
sale will include titles related to Tomakomai. Patlabor's
connection to the city is that it is Noa Izumi's hometown.
Both events seem to be free, however to participate in the
Tomakomai Cosplay Festa, the cost is ¥1,500 for one day or
¥2,300 for both. 3 October 2022 – Hobby Japan to Release MODEROID Mecha Modeling Company Mook Hobby Japan will be releasing a new mook (magazine/book) on 5 October 2022 called MODEROID Mecha Modeling Company, which as it sounds covers plastic model kits in Good Smile's MODEROID range of kits. No firm date was given and also no real reason for the delay. I have been making some progress with updating this website, mostly with the Fridge section; Video Lists, Audio (Soundtrack) Lists, Manga, Magazine and Book Lists and Models and Figures Lists have been updated and corrected where needed. I still have the garage kits and doujinshi lists I need to do additional research on and eventually update. So far I have added 8 additional video entries, 17 additional album entries 18 additional model kit and figure entries and 48 additional book, magazine and manga entries. I did some additional research on related books and albums and just kept finding more and more of them. The next project is one I sort of left to the side for a while as I did not have the resources to complete it. Now that I have some translations for it, I plan to commence work on it again in September and hopefully will have it completed for the 20th anniversary of this website. 13 August 2022 – Kaiyodo to Reprint Soft Vinyl Patlabor Kits, Yuji Kaida Illustration Collection Mechanism Trajectory Book Released, Applications for 1st Makuhari International Labor Show in Wonder Festival, Patlabor 2 the Movie Soundtrack Available on Spotify Quite a few news items have popped up in the last two weeks that I have only recently come across. Kaiyodo re-released two soft vinyl kits at Wonder Festival. The kits were the Ingram Comic Version and Type 98 AV Ingram Unit 1 Alphonse Theatrical Version, both in 1/35 scale. Both kits were only initially available on the day, however will be released in November at the Kaiyodo Kochi Online Store. No prices were mentioned in any of the press releases and the kits aren't up for purchase yet. Yuji
Kaida, an artist well known for model kit box
cover art and other promotional paintings has
released a new compilation illustration book
called "Yuji Kaida Illustration Collection
Mechanism Trajectory" via publisher Ikeda
Shoten on 12 August. The book includes several
Patlabor artworks, mostly used for the 1/60
scale Bandai Patlabor kit range released in
the early 1990's and some art work used for
bonus posters in Newtype magazine. The book
also includes artwork from "Aura Battler
Dunbine", "Panzer World Galient", "Heavy Metal
L-Gaim", "Dancouga", "Zoids", "Xabungle",
"Evangelion" and "Gunbuster". Also included is
a discussion with Yuji Kaida and Yutaka
Izubuchi. The book is 192 pages in length and
costs ¥3,850. More
details of the the previously
announced 1st
Makuhari International Labor Show that
will take place on 12 February 2023 at
the winter edition of Wonder Festival
have been announced. Participants can
submit items in three categories; "3D
Modeling Department" for general 3D
objects such as garage kits and
figures, "Digital Data Division" for
digital works such as CG and 3D
modeling and the "2D Art Category" for
illustrations and paintings. Yutaka
Izubuchi will be the judge and
announce an overall winner of the
submitted works and also winners of
the three categories. Application
forms and general information can be
found on the Wonder
Festival website.
Applications to enter close on 15
September. Swiss record label WRWTFWW Records (We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records), who previously reissued the Patlabor 2 the Movie soundtrack on LP and CD in November 2021, have now released the soundtrack via streaming service Spotify on 5 August. 31 July 2022 – "Mobile Police Patlabor Buccake Talk!" @ Wonder Festival Summer 2022 Event Report, Three Zero Solicits 1/35 Griffin Figure, Good Smile Solicits MODEROID Ingram Reactive Armour and Type 98 Special Command Vehicle & Type 99 Special Labor Carrier Kits, Yokoi Koji SD Artbook II Solicited The "Mobile Police Patlabor Buccake Talk!" at Wonder Festival Summer 2022 was held last weekend on Sunday 24 July, in which some more information about the Patlabor Ezy project was announced. Three still images from the Patlabor Ezy pilot film were publicly shown. They seem to indicate the series may have a similar look to the 2016 "Patlabor Reboot" short. Fans also noted the subtle changes to the new AV-98 Ingram's design, most notably the flashing police lights. Director Yutaka Izubuchi also stated that the Ingrams are continually reused and remodeled in the series, as they are expensive equipment and the police department can't really afford to buy new models. He also stated that it had been a difficult journey to get to this point with the project but could not discuss what had happened. Longtime graphic designer for the franchise, Teruhisa Tajima, was also confirmed as working on the project in an unspecified design work role. Multiple mecha designers are working on the series from Izubuchi's original designs. It was also noted that storyboards for the individual episodes are being worked on. One fan report stated that the first episode had been completed, but I am unable to confirm this. I suspect what was meant here is that the storyboards for the first episode are complete, not production on the episode itself. The pilot film itself will make it's debut at a fan event on Saturday 13 August 2022 (see 16 July 2022 news entry below). It was also announced that a "Makuhari International Labor Show" will take place at Wonder Festival Winter 2023. This will be a diorama of labor models that will be compiled and arranged by director Yutaka Izubuchi. Hong Kong
based figure company Three
Zero has finally solicited their

60 points of
articulation,
weathering paint
applied to the
fabric covering the
joints, opening
hatch for access to
the detailed
cockpit, four joints
on each side of
wings for maximum
posability, four
sets of
interchangeable
hands, a figure of
Bud Renard Harchand
and a ROBO-DOU
action stand. The
cost of the figure
is ¥20,190, HK$1,168
or US$149, depending
on where you buy it
from. It is
scheduled to ship
out in December 2022.

previously released

The second kit is a
bit of a surprise; a
Type 98 Special
Command Vehicle
& Type 99
Special Labor
Carrier set.
This is the first time
the labor carrier has
released commercially
as a kit. The set
includes one Type 98
Command Vehicle and
one Type 99 Labor
Carrier. The carrier
features include
rotating wheels,
rubber tires, swing
mechanism for front

left and right. The

in the rear of the

of the previously
released MODEROID
police labors and also

arm, rotating crane
and telescopic steps.
The hanger can also
rise 90 degrees up to
recreate the "deck-up"
effect to launch the
labor being carried.
The set retails for
¥8,500. In addition
the Good Smile online

exclusives for this
set one
which includes
bonus parts to

AV-98 Ingram kit to

A
new compilation artbook of
Super Deformed (SD)
illustrations called
"Yokoi Koji SD Artbook II"
will be released by
publisher Genkosha on 31
August 2022. Koji Yokoi
was originally an
illustrator for some of
Bandai's gashapon lines in
the 1980's, but soon
became the lead
illustrator for the
company's "Super Deformed"
merchandise series in the
late 1980's. However he is
best known for his SD
Gundam illustrations.
While the first book in
this series focused
exclusively on SD Gundam
illustrations, this second
volume contains SD
illustrations of "L-Gaim",
"Danbine", "Xabungle",
"Mazinger Z", "Getter
Robo", "Super Sentai
Series", "Metal Hero
Series", "Toei Heroes",
"Gamera Series",
"Daimajin" and other Daiei
tokusatsu related
characters. The book of
course includes
illustrations of numerous
SD labors from Patlabor,
many of which I
incorporated into the
design of the website many
years ago. Retail price of
the book is ¥3,300 and is
160 pages in length. 16 July 2022 – Patlabor Ezy Pilot Film Stills to Be Shown At Wonder Festival Event, Full Film to Be Shown at Official Fancub Event and TV Series & Second Movie Exhibition in Osaka (Corrected & Updated) The official Patlabor website has announced that stills from the Patlabor Ezy pilot film will be shown at the "Mobile Police Patlabor Buccake Talk!" event at Wonder Festival Summer 2022, on Sunday 24 July from 1:45pm in Hall 1 of Makuhari Messe International Exhibition in Chiba. Patlabor 30th
Anniversary Exhibition
Featuring TV and
Patlabor 2 will be
held again, this time
at Lucbus,
a permanent gallery
and museum showcasing
anime related works in
Abeno Harukas Building
in Abenosuji, Osaka.
Like the previous
exhibition held at the
Tsuchiura Citizens
Gallery in Ibaraki
Prefecture in January
2022, this exhibition
will have materials
relating to the TV
series and second
film. The exhibition
will be held in two
parts; the first part
from 23 July to 8
August 2022 will
concentrate on Akemi
Takada's illustration
and original drawings.
The second part from
10 August to 21 August
2022 will focus on
original materials
from the productions
of both projects. The
Patlabor Ezy pilot
film will also be
screened for a limited
time from Sunday 14
August. The exhibition
will be open from 10am
to 7:30 pm every day
from 23 July to 21
August 2022 at Lucbus,

local government of
Tsuchiura
City (Ibaraki
Prefecture) has
announced they will
be installing
15 Patlabor
themed manhole
covers
from
outside the
Japan Rail
Tsuchiura
Station to
Kijo Park from
February 2023.
They will
mostly be
placed near
sightseeing
spots in the
city. The idea
behind the
commission of
these new
manhole covers
is to increase
tourism in the
city. The link
with Patlabor
and Tsuchiura
is that the
Griffin labor
was developed
at Schaft
Japan's
Tsuchiura
Research
Institute in
the manga and
anime. The
Patlabor 30th
Anniversary
Exhibition was
held at the
Tsuchiura
Citizens
Gallery back
in January
2022. Over
3,100 people
attended the
exhibition and
bought ¥7
million worth
of merchandise
there.
Tsuchiura City
local
government are
also
considering
reselling the
Patlabor
merchandise
from that
event, and are
planning a
digital stamp
rally centered
around the
manholes. I
am aware I
have not
touched this
website in
over a year
and a half. Now
that it seems
that Patlabor
Ezy seems to
be finally on
it's way (with
any luck...),
I will be
attempting to
update the
site over the
next few
months. As
previously
mentioned, the
traveling

next stop
is
Niigata in
Chibu
